Haven't had too much time to work on this site lately as I've been working on projects elsewhere, but I still have lots in store for my little slice of the web. I'll soon be learning PHP and converting this site over (finally!) and most likely will be rebuilding the whole thing from scratch. I've been doing a lot of reading on PHP and I expect I'll pick up on it fairly quickly. It's very similar to javascript in regards to syntax and loose variable typing, so I should be able to learn the basics easily.

Apparently it's genuinely object-oriented, with classes and everything, and I haven't messed with that stuff since my JAVA days in tech school over a year ago. It'll probably take a while to refresh my memory on inheritence, polymorphism, etc. but I'm sure it'll be worth the trouble

I'll be temporarily disabling the collaboration and comments areas of the site while I work with the database. Hopefully I'll have them back up before the weekend is through. If all goes well I'll even be adding some new functionality to the Collab page.

I've completed the overhaul, and while you shouldn't notice any difference it should allow me to use the comments and message system a bit more freely and integrate new sections of the site without these downtimes.

I'm working on a new design for the Pineville/Jane Area Chamber of Commerce web site. I developed their current site and design earlier in the year, but at the time they wanted more focus on getting the site done quickly and cheaply. Now they've hired me (through Elk River Computers) to redesign their site.

During the design mock-up phase I came up with a new navigation system that's a combination of the tabs at the top of this site and the bar at the right. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off code-wise, but it's coming along nicely. I have Elsie helping me out with that a bit.

Keep an eye on the COC web site, I should have the new design up on Friday the 11th, once I get their official approval.
